Statement from Rob Sargent Campaign Director of Local Solar for All, on Signing of Illinois Clean Energy Bill

SPRINGFIELD, I.L. (September 15, 2021) -- Governor Jay Pritzker signed a bill today requiring 40 percent of Illinois’ electricity come from renewable resources by 2030, including 5,800 MW of rooftop and community solar power.

In response to the legislation’s passage, Rob Sargent, Campaign Director for Local Solar for All, issued the following statement:

“Hats off to Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Legislature for passing this critical clean energy legislation. The new law represents a major step toward the state’s goal of meeting its  energy needs with carbon-free sources by 2050.

We’re very pleased that lawmakers recognized the critical role that rooftop and community solar should play in the clean energy transition. Local solar helps lower the cost of meeting clean energy goals, while creating the flexibility to ensure a more equitable distribution of renewable energy’s economic and environmental benefits. Our recent research shows that scaling local solar will help bring down energy costs over time.”
